Liebherr presents L 580 XPower wheel loader at Ligna 2025

  • Wheel loader equipped with industrial kinematics and high-dump bucket for the timber industry
  • Power-split driveline, mounted as standard, delivers power and efficiency
  • Assistance systems, such as active personnel detection, ensure safety in the timber yard

Liebherr is presenting the L 580 XPower wheel loader at Ligna 2025, the world's leading trade fair for woodworking and wood processing. The Group's second-largest wheel loader model is equipped with industrial kinematics and a high-dump bucket for its appearance at the trade fair. This configuration is ideal for efficiently loading large quantities of bulk materials. Like all Liebherr wheel loaders in the XPower series, the L 580 XPower has a power-split travel drive as standard, which ensures low fuel consumption and maximum power delivery.

The typical tasks of wheel loaders in wood processing companies include loading wood chips, sawdust, bark or various types of wood waste. The combination of industrial kinematics and high-dump bucket shown on the L 580 XPower is suitable for these tasks, allowing the driver to load lorries with higher board walls efficiently. Liebherr offers industrial kinematics for selected wheel loader models as an alternative to the standard Z-bar lift arm. It provides strong forces in the upper lift arm range, which is particularly advantageous for the powerful operation of heavy equipment such as high-dump buckets or log grapples.

Powerful and safe thanks to power-split driveline and assistance systems

Wheel loaders in sawmills, biomass plants or pellet and chipboard plants often have to cover different distances when transporting loose bulk materials. With these requirements, operators and drivers both benefit from the power-split driveline of the XPower wheel loaders. It combines the hydrostatic drive, which is ideal for short loading cycles, with the mechanical drive, the advantages of which come into play over long distances. The interaction between the two drive paths is automatically adapted to the application. The result is low fuel consumption and maximum performance, even when longer distances or ascents have to be mastered on a timber yard in addition to short loading cycles.

Liebherr offers numerous assistance systems to meet the high safety standards of wood processing companies. One example of this is active person detection at the rear, which warns the driver in the cab visually on the display and with acoustic signals of dangers in the rear area. The assistance system automatically differentiates between people and objects to provide a targeted warning of a potential accident with personal injury. As soon as the active person detection system emits a warning signal, the brake assistant automatically reduces the speed of the wheel loader. This reduces the reliance on human reaction time compared to conventional braking. The stopping distance is shortened by important metres, which reduces the frequency and intensity of potential accidents and increases safety in the timber yard.
